It’s simple, if you are more aware of these mistakes you’ll stay as your customer’s favorite, be well known around the media and even save more money. So, do yourself a favor and correct them is you find yourself at fault.
1. Competitors aren’t always enemies
Nothing’s wrong with a little friendly competition. Big competitors can actually be a source for your networking and income. Invite them out and let them know what you are doing. If they have prospects that are too small for them or put them in an awkward situation like conflict of interest, maybe they would be more than happy to send those customers your way. Make sure to thank them if they do!
2. Partnering with the wrong charity
Charities can make great business partners. Make sure they follow the same ideals and views as your company. If that charity has other sponsors and partners they may be come your partners and clients, too. Just because they are a “charity” does not mean they will make a good look for your business.
3. Being bigger than reality
Its good to believe that your business is the next best thing, but everyone has to pay his or her dues. First, get some local recognition and gain some creditability with testimonials. Once you’ve entered some trade publications and won some industry awards, then you can grace front covers and primetime advertisement spots.
4. Misusing media
Never turn down a journalists or interview at the last minute. That is the quickest way to lose before you even begin your race. Treat media and media personnel like customers. Taking care of them right away ensures success for the times to follow.
5. Always varying your strategy
Every marketing maneuver should be strategic, never at whim. Make sure your business is always telling a consistent story and showing the same consistent image. Don’t opt in to any radio spot just because it’s open; find out what commercial comes before and after it. Treat your brand with care.
