The Impact Brunch

Location: Mondrian Penthouse | Miami, FL

Audience: 150+ athletes, venture capitalist, startups, advisors, and entrepreneurs

Background

The Players' Impact (TPI) hosted The Impact Brunch during Super Bowl LIV weekend in Miami to engage their audience and demonstrate what the company does. TPI connects reputable VCs and advisors to athlete founders and connects startups with athlete investors.

The Impact Brunch would be the first significant activation for the company during a high profile weekend and set the tone for future events for the company.

Problem

The title sponsor pulled out of the event three weeks before the event. Without the sponsor's resources in the budget, the event had to continue as scheduled without change since the invitations and advertising were already sent out.

Solution

Using established relationships through the founders, we leveraged their connections and found a venue that had no cost. So, the budget funds for a venue were able to be reallocated. We constructed panels and interviews by using personal relationships with speakers.

The caliber of speakers and knowledge available engaged sponsors and partnerships. Mercedez-Benz, Starter, Finger Licking Dutch, and alcohol sponsors played essential roles in transportation and gifting.

The panels allowed potential clients to see the wealth of knowledge offered by the company. The gifts allowed us to thank the panelist without disrupting the budget since many spoke out of favor. Big-name sponsors helped create buzz and notable recognition to solidify the legitimacy of the event.

Evaluation

Despite constantly checking on resources and managing the project, there was no way we could suspect a huge title sponsor was dropping at such short notice. While this was unfortunate, we did not have time to scrutinize what happened. The only option was to solve the problem and move forward, quickly. Here is another example of why it is so important to have a strong network of people.

It also provided a chance for me to plug my own business with the content provided. If there is alignment, I'm always thinking of ways of leverage what I have to offer as well.

The event was such a success that attendees stayed well beyond the end time. They were still engaged in conversations from the panel and creating new relationships. The only thing still available was the bar-- also donated.
